Max and the Coyote

Mrs. Little's class at Newport Elementary School writes with a frequently asked question: How did Max get away from the coyote?

Max was my dachshund when I was in junior high and high school. One morning he was outside performing his ablutions when a coyote grabbed him! I know because I saw it happen through the window.

It was terrible! I cried and cried!

But a few hours later, Max came home.

How did he get away? I don't know for sure. The coyote carried him off by the throat (!) -- which I witnessed -- and when Max came back he had toothmarks where he'd been grabbed but was otherwise okay. I guess he was just too tough and wiggly for the coyote to eat!

Thanks for writing, and I look forward to meeting you soon! Martha

PS - I am going to post your question on my blog on my website -- hope that's okay.
